Beautiful place to visit even in the off season (bloom is June I think she said) there was still plenty of color and still plenty of animal activity even with the near record cold snap throughout Florida. I didn't stay for the Chinese Lantern holiday lights at night because that was a separate fee but it was still really neat to see them all during the day. The highlight of my day was the monkeys playing with my dog. Highly recommend for a nice day trip! Read More

Magical and unforgettable experience! The Asian Lantern Festival was absolutely stunning from start to finish. The lantern displays were breathtaking — huge, colorful, and intricately detailed. Walking through the illuminated pathways felt like stepping into another world. The festival had such a warm, joyful atmosphere, and every corner was perfect for photos. This is a must-see event for families, couples, and anyone who loves art, light, and culture. Highly recommend coming at night so you can fully appreciate all the glowing lanterns! 🎇✨ Read More

We were in the area visiting family, and our grandson loves the zoo. This was our first visit to this zoo, and driving in you get the feeling that this place is a blend between the actual zoo and a botanical garden (hence the name). We went in December so obviously not much was blooming, You can see the potential for a beautiful property when spring and summer arrive. The animals were out and about as we arrived during the morning feeding time. We really liked the fact that the young ones can get reasonably close to many of the animals and even feed the goats. They have many light-up displays that during the evening hours must be quite extensive to witness. We will definitely put a return visit on our schedule and see the lights at night. We'll worth the visit if you've never been there. Read More

We visited the zoo on December 22, 2025. We took the Sunrail Train from Deland to Sanford with our bikes and then rode our bikes to The zoo. The only hiccup as far as the bike ride, was that the gate was closed at the Sun rail station that leads to a development that would’ve made it a lot easier to ride a bicycle to the zoo with a six-year-old. The path to the development was locked. It doesn’t show that on Google maps. But we had a great time at the zoo. We got to see the giraffe, the rhino, the leopard, and all kinds of other animals. VR experience was awesome. I didn’t do that, but I got the video of my better half and the six-year-old. Watching their reactions while they were watching the VR was great The price of a can soda was a bit ridiculous at five dollars though!! There were water refilling stations throughout the park, which was good. The decorations and artwork throughout the park was also pretty awesome! A great day and experience had by all!! Read More

We visited the Asian Lantern Festival at the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens in early December, and it was absolutely beautiful. The weather was perfect, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable. The lantern displays were stunning, ranging from small, intricate designs to extra-extra-large installations that were truly impressive. Every turn had something new to look at, and the attention to detail was amazing. There were so many attractions throughout the walk-through, and it felt engaging from start to finish. The entire experience took us about 45 minutes to an hour at a relaxed pace, which was the perfect length to enjoy everything without feeling rushed. It was a wonderful event for all ages and truly a perfect place for the entire family. We would definitely go again! ✨ Read More

Very cute little zoo. We visited during the lantern festival and it was very impressive. A few attractions were closed and some walkways were closed and it was hard to figure out when events were, otherwise I would have given 5 stars. We saw everything in about 2hr. There's a playground in the center of the park that could easily extend the time there. Read More

The Sanford Zoo is a must do while in town! My fiance wanted to go for her birthday and I had not been back since I was a kid so I was a little worried. I was extremely pleasently surprised! The exhibits were really nice, the activites were priced well, and the snacks were well priced, satisfactory, and filling. The staff was welcoming and simply amazing in every way. Special shout out to Kelton at the grass feeding attraction for being hilarious, kind, and really making our trip extra special. I loved every second of it and I will be coming back for Brews at the Zoo! Read More

We went a few years ago and had such a good time here. We came during the day to see the animals and then came back at night for the Chinese Lantern Festival, and both were just as awesome. During the day the animals were super fun to see. Great for kids, easy to walk, stroller friendly, and enough to keep everyone interested without feeling like you’re hiking 15 miles. My daughter loved it and there were plenty of spots to stop and look around. But the lanterns at night were the showstopper. It was our first time seeing anything like that and we were blown away. Bright, colorful, totally different vibe... almost feels like you’re walking through a storybook. Since then it’s become something we look for every winter back home because we loved it that much. All around great experience, would definitely go again. Perfect little break from the tourist Orlando chaos. Read More
